People who try to convince others that they are particularly knowledgeable about how the internet works (for purposes of whatever it is they are selling) should not throw down such an easily refutable claim. That tells me he doesn’t have the foggiest idea about how the internet works.

I seem to remember that it was/is also good at letting people communicate between long distances, both in real time and with a delay. Things like IRC and usenet. (And email, which was the first of the Killer Apps for the internet- prior to that, you and the recipient had to be members on the same BBS, or a FIDOnet node to swap messages back n forth. )
