OMG, that is so intelligent and responsible. No wonder we in the U.S. don’t do things like that.
(We do in medical situations like ERs, but that’s the only scenario I can think of.)

The same basic thing happens here, but for all firearms licence categories. I recently had this kind of questioning as my partner wanted to re-new her licence. We don’t even have a firearm here - she has a .22 bolt action rifle handed down from her father, but it’s currently with her brother in law, and has been for several years. But we still went through the full process, and she got mildly rebuked for not having an up-to-spec safe for the firearms we don’t have. And, yes, I was asked the same questions in a face-to-face interview while she was specifically out of the room.
And, yeah; there’s basically no category of weapon* that is outright banned. I know people with howitzers. Literal, actual howitzers. And tanks, and machine guns, and shot guns, and pistols, and silenced weapons and you name it. But you have to really want it, and prove that you aren’t an idiot. And then continue to prove that you aren’t an idiot to retain it.
Because we all have a right to be safe and happy, not just you with your toys.
'* apart from nuclear weapons. I’m pretty sure those things are banned for private ownership. OTOH, some dude built a home-made cruise missile a few years ago.
This.
