Dug this up. Bill AB 89 was signed by Governor Newsom in 9/21 and created new minimum requirements for peace officers. The bill did not affect then current officers, so any indications of beneficial effect will take time. I don’t know the status of the other bills listed in the report below, but the Openstates site should show the latest.
AB 89 seems to address the (problematic) traditional “intelligence” and culture-driven mind-set required of new recruits.
(excerpts): Raises the age limit to be a police officer in the state of California from 18 to 21 while requiring that new officers also have a bachelor’s degree. This bill, the Peace Officers Education and Age Conditions for Employment Act or PEACE Act, will require the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges to create modern policing criteria to be adopted by the Commission. Financial aid resources for students in underserved and disadvantaged areas will also be required to be adopted under the PEACE Act. Studies show that developing areas of the brain do not fully develop or mature until the age of 25 and that a four-year education in college significantly reduces the chance of an officer using excessive force. Author of the bill, Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer, D- Los Angeles, described the PEACE Act as a “data-driven bill.” He expects the new law to “ transform departments across the state.”
“Despite being run by utter morons,” Mesh said of Patriot Prayer, “they managed to outsmart most of their adversaries in this city, simply by provoking violent reactions from people who were appalled by their politics.” The argument for violence among people on the left is often, essentially, If you encounter a Nazi, you should punch him. But “what if the only thing the Nazi wants is for you to punch him?” Mesh asked. “What if the Nazis all have cameras and they’re immediately feeding all the videos of you punching them to Tucker Carlson? Which is what they did.”
Sadly, seems accurate. We can’t even punch Nazis without it coming back in our faces.
True, but there has always been a problem with bothsiderism in the media, which is part of the discussion. If the antifascist is getting in trouble for punching a fascist, it’s more often than not because the police are somewhat to very sympathetic with the fascist…
