That was fun! …except for the dodgy muzak. I’ll mute the sound next time I play. If you enjoy eight-bit dungeon-crawlers, then you might like Alchemic Dungeons. It has an inventory management element, and a bit more than most Dungeon Crawlers do. I followed this game in its first incarnation as Ninja Warrior, and I’m still hooked. Now it has Warriors, Rangers, WItches, Ninjas, Valkyries, Dwarves and even Prophets (as an unlocked skill). Good for tablets and phones. It’s also available on Steam!

All the world’s a stash,
And all the men and women merely players;
Objects have their exits and their entrances,
And one person in their time plays many times,
Their acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking on toys and clothes.
Then the whining schoolchild, with their satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
unwilling to drop objects. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful lament
Made to hoard digital potions. Then a worker,
Full of strange items at desk and studio,
Jealous in hoarding, sudden and quick to post,
Seeking the fleeting reputation
Against the social media of others. And then the procreator,
In full parent body, with good hoodie lined,
With eyes severe and sleep deprived,
Full of wise thoughts and modern advice;
And so they play their part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered sweatpants,
With elastic on clothes and pouch on side;
Their youthful socks, stretched, a waste once too wide
For their shrinking body, and their authoritative voice,
Turning again toward childish babel, longing-
Grasping for control. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans items, sans everything.

I am reminded of this rant.

I know encumberance and inventory management is an important realism mechanic, but a “zero weight” or similar mod is almost always the first mod I install.

I haven’t tried Homeward yet but I’m already reminded of

which is fun.

There have been a few new games which bring inventory management to new genres, like Backpack Battles (auto battler) and God of Weapons (horde survival). Backpack Battles definitely has potential for greatness.
