Israel - Palestine conflict. 2023-24 misery and horror continues

At least 10 Palestinians killed, 16 wounded in multiple Israeli raids on Jenin refugee camp in occupied West Bank.

Israel agrees to 4-hour daily pauses in fighting in northern Gaza, White House says

U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that Israel has agreed to implement 4-hour pauses in areas of northern Gaza each day, with announcement coming 3 hours before.

Kirby added that Israel told the U.S. there will be no military operations in these areas over the duration of the pauses and that it also agreed to open two humanitarian corridors from north to south Gaza. With one already been opened, another will be on coastal road.

A Palestinian doctor who graduated from a prestigious UK Foreign Office scholarship scheme is feared to have been killed along with most of his family in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, colleagues say.

Netanyahu’s Super Far Right Nazi Guy says:

Ben-Gvir: 4-hour humanitarian pauses in Gaza ‘a serious mistake’

Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said the announcement that Israel had agreed to 4-hour humanitarian pauses each day in Gaza “is a particularly serious mistake.”

In a post on X, Ben-Gvir wrote that “We must continue the fighting” while maintaining “the [humanitarian] corridor for [Gaza’s] residents to move southward.”

Ben-Gvir added that the war cabinet established with opposition MK Benny Gantz and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant “does not have a mandate to permit pauses without the return of all the hostages,” adding that he would demand such decisions be brought before the political-security cabinet for discussion.

Israel to begin four-hour pauses in northern Gaza, says US

Israel will begin daily four-hour pauses in northern Gaza to allow people to flee fighting in the territory, the White House said.

US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said that the first humanitarian pause would be announced Thursday and that the Israelis had committed to announcing each four-hour window at least three hours in advance.

Kirby said the pauses would allow people to get out of harm’s way and for deliveries of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. He added the breaks in fighting could also be used as a way to get hostages out.

“We’ve been told by the Israelis that there will be no military operations in these areas over the duration of the pause, and that this process is starting today,” Kirby said.

The White House said US President Joe Biden had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to institute the daily pauses during a Monday call.

Wait, how do they know what someone is calling about before they answer the phone or let it go to voicemail?

Al-Zahra was established in the 1990s by the late Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat as a place for staff and supporters. Locals say it still had strong connections with the PA, which is based in the occupied West Bank and is a bitter rival of Hamas.

[…]

Everyone we spoke to insisted that, to their knowledge, this area was as far removed from Hamas and its operations as it is possible to be in Gaza, which Hamas has ruled since 2007. “There was no military here,” one told us. “I don’t even think there were Hamas supporters living here.”

If Hamas had built tunnels in Al-Zahra, they would have had to dig under existing buildings, risking subsidence, and they couldn’t have relied on the locals to keep their mouths shut.
