Why do the settlers think that moving closer to their enemies will make them safe?

As far as I can see there are two possibilities.

  1. They aren’t really thinking about security, which is just a pretext for a land grab.

  2. Once they build settlements in occupied southern Lebanon, the army will have to carve out a “security zone” to the north to protect the settlements. Then the settlers will build settlements in the “security zone” and the army will be obliged to expand the zone to protect them. Repeat ad infinitum.
