And any advocacy for RCV is actually more effective when it’s coming from someone who isn’t trying to get elected himself. Ballot initiatives have been successful in both red and blue states, but if a politician starts going around saying “we need this reform so that I can get elected!” then it suddenly becomes a polarizing, partisan issue.
Ranked choice voting may happen.
But switching to a “European style” of government with a parliament who pics the president/PM? Never.
What I’m looking for is someone to propose a second party. This party would call itself “Republican” and follow the lead of Ronald Reagan, the Bushes, Milton Freidman, etc.
“Nac Mac Feegle! The Wee Free Men! Nae king! Nae quin! Nae laird! We willna be fooled again!”
Why? Those people did a lot of harm to our country
Right?
“Low taxes” is just the financial arm of bigoted hatred as public policy.
We’re supposed to
-
keep hating the current enemy (Trump) because he’s literally the worst person ever
-
forget all the awful things those other bastards did because that was the past and it doesn’t matter anymore
As soon as there is a new enemy (DeSantis or whoever) we’ll be expected to express nostalgia for the Trump days when things weren’t so bad
HELICOPTER RIDES FOR EVERYONE
Nostalgia is a helluva drug.
Just say no.
“Man, Sauron is really mean! We should bring back Saruman.”
But but, the drugs were so good back then!

The people who made the party shitty in the first place? Nah, bruh. Let’s go back to those delightful Eisenhower republicans, who understood that you can’t run a political party on hate, deregulation, and tax cuts… They weren’t perfect, but they agreed that a good country shouldn’t be all about the free market and bigotry.
What, aren’t these bastards ruining enough kids’ lives through the school-to-prison pipeline?
Maybe folks who advocate for legal child labor could learn more in prison than by promoting such vile ideas in public forums…
Remember when those guys actively blocked any federal action to address the AIDS pandemic and tried to amend the Constitution to discriminate against LGBTQ people and sent the Federal deficit into the stratosphere and ruined millions of lives with a War on Drugs that primarily targeted minorities and…
Eisenhower would be labeled a socialist by all but a handful of Democrats much less Republicans, with his 90% highest marginal tax rates, warnings about the military-industrial complex, free college education, and support of civil rights!
Yes. The John Birch Society called him a communist back then. None the less…
Which is implemented in how many States?
As discussed upthread, two states currently use RCV for all elections. A number of others have the system in place for various local elections, primaries, etc.
