John playing bass poorly works fine on Helter Skelter. The whole song is such chaos already it all kind of works.

John playing bass poorly like he did on The Long and Winding Road, not so much.

As an aside I’m constantly amazed at how Helter Skelter manages to sound contemporary, even some 5 decades later.
