Laurie Penny at the DNC: "Dissent will not be tolerated. Protest will not be permitted."

What great and important things do you remember JFK for?

As I recall, it is LBJ that integrated things with the stroke of a pen and troops.

We could just cap the coaches in public colleges, they should never be the highest paid person at a place of education.

And yeah, you’d want some controls in place, but I see way more solutions than problems here.

I’m not sure what happened there but you somehow both replied to the wrong person, and quoted something you weren’t replying to.

What do you do when it becomes apparent those you are expected to compromise with aren’t (and haven’t) been acting in good faith? And all evidence points to not only a lack of forward movement, but in fact that you are far worse off than you have been in years?

What do sports have to do with higher education? How about we just eliminate them from state funded schools, at least in the form of organized teams that compete with other schools and have school stadiums built. If they want to play b-ball in a quad or have a fencing club, by all means.

Say what now?

So when you hit the little ‘reply’ thing did it look like you were replying to me, or did that get added in after you posted? There’s a bug in the BBS that does this mis-replying thing, so data on what’s happening would be good to help sort it out.

Yeah dude. Because having progressive policies is totally as absurd as raising people from the dead.

Good point, and it’s not like having your local college make it to some big game adds to the educational value of a school. Plus having all those athletes there on scholarships creates pressure to lower standards (not like we haven’t seen that a LOT, right?)

Your solution is better than mine was.

If Gore were a viable candidate, he could have at least won his home state, gaining 11 electoral college votes and winning the electoral college by 6 votes even after Florida was stolen.

You cannot blame the Bush years on a few thousand people voting their conscience or a 3rd party candidate. You can blame Gore for being an unlikeable, corporatist candidate with a poor election strategy that ultimately most people had a hard time pulling the lever for.

I’m slightly paranoid about resource mis-allocation, given global warming and all… But given that college graduates and researchers are the ones most likely to come up with solutions and bandaids, I can relax it a bit.

Plus eliminating the need for low-income students to pursue an athletic scholarship in the first place, risking themselves playing football… Which might by itself weaken sports in college…

Huh. Could free college tuition actually kill off collegiate sports by itself?

All my assumptions are based on what she HAS BEEN DOING over the last two decades.

I had this feeling that you ignored replies. You’re confirming this.

Going by the in-hall reports from 538, the only consistently booing/aggressive Sanders supporters is the California delegation - who happens to be positioned near most reporters. The dissent is real, but the scale seems to be overblown.

Just underscoring how aware we all are by now of the futility of attaching anything to those promises.

That matters. But those aren’t the only things which matter.

Yes, he’s remembered for a great speech. Rah-fucking-rah.

LBJ did the actual work of integration, for example, and people following JFK managed and allocated funds for the moon launches.

Like I said, he’s a pretty boy mostly remembered for being murdered in office.

Me too, that’s why I’m afraid of her! If I couldn’t write in Bernie then I’d vote Trump, not because I think he’s anything but horrible, but he’s also stupid and pretty much the entirety of house and senate would unite to box him in and render him relatively harmless, (see how even half as much effort has hamstrung Obama). Hillary on the other hand is like the elder Bush, devious and greedy and has her hands on all the strings already.
