Because each state gets two senators regardless of population, the Senate is already geared to give too much power to minority opinions even without the filibuster. When 30% of the population gets to elect 70% of the senators, the filibuster makes it all but impossible for the Senate to carry out the will of the people. I say burn the filibuster to the ground and never look back.
According to the news on the radio this morning, McConnell is using this to drag his feet on the transition to the new Senate.
