May 9th is also an exciting day for amateur astronomers since a transit of Mercury will be taking place. But I may be jumping ahead here. Either way May is shaping up to be a very groovy month.

My wife and I watched the last meteor swarm far away from our San Francisco gray skies, by heading up to the foothills of Jenny Lind Ca.
It was the best night viewing experience ever. No need for any optics but a beach chair with a head rest was the ticket.
One meteor was so bright it cast the shadows of the trees around us.
Very hard to go to sleep that night.
Cheers!
