I’ve admired Shamook’s skills since he started posting his work on YouTube, so this is excellent news. In fact, Shamook’s deepfakes are the only ones out there that really look convincing. He’s got the magic. And I’m sure his stuff will be even better, with the resources of ILM at his fingertips.
That original looked like they’d dressed up Topher Grace to play Luke, whereas Shamook’s was (except for the lips) a spot-on ROTJ Luke.
Crazy. I can look at the improved deep fake work and say that it looks far better than the original, but I can’t tell you why I think that.
So… just blurrier and less shiny? The Ultra HD of CG does always give it away somewhat.
I’d argue that the Luke is a far bigger improvement though.
Corridor Digital did it in a week. Wonder how long did Shamook take?
Still very uncanny valley.
