I’m posting this here because of the history.
If this is anything like bindweed, there’s one sure way to kill it without harsh chemicals. Inject a salt solution into the plant, and let the circulatory system do rest. I used the same technique on a 40 year old wisteria gone out of control, and the only difference was we needed a drill to introduce the solution in multiple places. Once the plant was dead, it was easily removed from the ground (as well as telephone poles and power lines 
) and the soil wasn’t ruined for other uses.
Even if it’s not a Vermeer per se, it’s still quite a good technical achievement for the time period.
Wow, so much history was packed into this episode - the challenges of creating educational institutions, industries, and cultural movements by using social groups/networks as a foundation between the post-Reconstruction era through the Harlem Renaissance, despite the violence and oppression of that period:
I’m gonna have to check this series out…
But yeah, when you think about everything Black Americans did during the nadir of race relations in America, when extreme forms of racial violence were regularly employed to “keep” them in their place, the fact that they STILL did all of this blows my mind. It really shows just how human beings can persevere in some terrible situations and find ways to flourish.
This is what motivates me to remind people - younger ones especially - that none of what’s happening now is really new. We can not only survive, but thrive while defeating the forces of evil.
