Magnificent burst of graffiti bombing on NYC subways

And that one woman from Goldfinger.

Yes yes, let’s all live in a beige world where the only art available has been thoroughly degraded by a commission of like-minded bores before it dares be visible in any way! Property matters more than people, after all. /s

When will someone do something about those Germanic kingdoms’ atrocious grammar!?

Um… what? For many of us who do get motion sickness, the coverage of the window hardly matters. I get it whether or not they are painted over with graffiti. This might be the case for an individual, but not for everyone who gets motion sickness.

As for the art, I’m a fan of it.

The only imagery I should be subjected to when going about my business in public is the corporate advertising on posters and signs and billboards and buses and giant TV screens and occasionally written across the sky.

I’m disappointed by the lack of modern sky-writing and banners being pulled by aircraft. Even advertising blimps went out of style!

They got the art for free, saving huge amounts over what commissioning these works would have cost.

I live several miles from Michigan Stadium. I assure you that planes pulling banners (for Deja Vu, no less), sky writing and advertising blimps are still a thing approximately 9 Saturdays a year. That dang blimp takes so long to turn around that I’ve discovered it hovering over my neighborhood before. It’s louder than you might expect.

Can something you don’t want and indeed have to pay to remove truly be considered “free?”

Exactly this. In a world where my attention and focus is constantly being stolen by someone trying to sell me something, street art is a blessing, even the stuff that doesn’t scratch any of my itches.

Don’t worry, Walmart has plans for the future of aerial advertising.

“actual art” is anything art collectors will pay money for

additional rhetoric on the subject is just part of the sales pitch

Last year, somebody did this to a train in Belgium.

There was a petition asking for it to be kept like that, but the railway said they had to remove the graffiti as the covered windows were a safety issue (passengers might not know where they were).

Back in the day Bristol used to crack down on graffiti the same as any other city, but once Banksy started getting famous they started to change their mind, and now Bristol hosts the biggest graffiti festival in Europe.
They’ve not managed to get rid of the shitty tagging, but at least there’s outlets for the more artistic graffers.
Now my local station looks like this:

Of course last year George Floyd was still alive … but it does kinda feel like May was decades ago

it’s ugly, It’s shite and I wish the “literati” set would quit glorifying vandalism as some sort of high art and stop praising those responsible.

Invite them over to your house or apartment lobby or turn them loose on your car if you find it so desirable and aesthetically pleasing.

Excellent point; George Floyd was murdered in May of 2020; it is now December of 2020.

And yes… this single year feels like it’s been a freakin’ decade.

Along with your needless condescension;

Respectfully disagree. They are rolling eyesores. Try looking out a window half painted over with gibberish when you need to see where you ate.
