The cat goes where it wants

I mean, that situation really is a legit complaint though. (Not the expectation that a cat would listen to instructions, but the expectation that a pet owner should take responsibility for their pet’s actions.)

If my dogs were free to wander the neighborhood and pester my neighbors’ animals in their own yards (not to mention defecating wherever) I’m pretty sure my neighbors would have a thing or two to say about it.

This exactly. Cats like people who are calm and predictable which owner dude very clearly is NOT. Can’t imagine why it prefers the neighbour’s yard.

I’m sure if that cat could have talked, he’d have let you know those people were not cat people.

But, shitting in your vegetable beds is a bad thing?

Cats are both murder pets, and delightful creatures.

 I’m not entirely convinced that they all do…

My murderbeast understands tone and body language, as one would expect; but there are times when I swear she knows exactly what I am saying.

Yeah, it is a bad thing. I prefer not to have my vegetables come pre-loaded with toxo and other parasites nor to get fresh shit all over my hands when I’m working in the vegetable beds - not to mention the foul smell. If you put manure in your vegetable beds you a) don’t want it to be cat/dog/human, and b) you want it broken down before it gets added.

Exactly. Every human owned by or cohabiting with a cat should know they can encourage some behaviors and discourage some behaviors. At least while the human is looking. But at the end of the day, the cat will do what they please. Asshat wants the cat in his yard? Entice them. Or, better, stop letting them outside. Those houses look like they have a nice patio, screen it in if the kitty desires some fresh air.

Creepy guy. Poor cat.

This is why the cat likes the neighbor’s yard better, right? Can you imagine being cooped up with those folks all day, every day?

I would have moved my stereo speakers to the back porch, point them at the cat owner’ house, put on this record, then turn the volume to 11.

Cat pervert films cat pervert.

Cat’s reaction unrecorded.

If you don’t want your cat wandering around into other peoples’ yards you really should keep you cat indoors. I mean actually you should probably keep your cat indoors anyway if you don’t want it eating native birds and poisoned rodents, or getting diseases and getting hit by cars.

If you really think your cat needs fresh air… if I owned a backyard - I think it would be fun to build like a wire mesh hamster tunnel thing connected to my house for the cat to run around in, ha. I saw a video online where someone did that for chickens to protect them from predators.

I can understand keeping a cat indoors in the USA, where there are bears, coyotes, and crazy people with guns. Here in the UK it’s reasonably safe to let a cat outside. Female cats generally don’t wander far. Toms range far and wide. (Gee, I wonder why that is./S)
We currently have a kitten, who is not allowed out until it has all its vaccinations. Edited to say: Cats do sometimes get hit by cars. So do hedgehogs, dogs, foxes, deer and people. Maybe all those should be kept inside. Or maybe - oh, could it be? - that cars need limiting in some way? Maybe keep THEM indoors. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is that safe for birds too? Will your cat somehow be prevented from killing them?

Sorry. Substitute for children, of course.

I am a cat person, by the way. But this? Meh.
