The weirdest thing about this story is that Japan doesn’t even block foreign porn sites, so people can easily get pornography without the mosaic censorship, including Japanese porn that was produced specifically for export (um…or so I hear…). And the guy was selling the stuff through his website, so it’s not like these were people who didn’t have access to the Internet. Still, this story has everything: sex, cybercrime, AI!

They received most of their censorship laws from the US during their occupation post WWII. Being restricted from their normal porn has made a lot of Japanese porn much more … creative.

Downloading copyrighted material is illegal, so it has to be streaming.
They don’t really market much hentai overseas (a lot of countries have laws about the ages of fictional characters…), and (of course) not all porn has uncensored versions for export (especially the really weird shit), but still…
I’m betting that this guy’s customers were people who wanted to see the bits of their favorite stars, who may or may not have unblurred videos out there.
The people I know who are into Japanese porn (o.k. two guys I know) are really loyal to particular stars…
I’ve brought up the argument that “well, you know you live in the US and can watch uncensored porn right? Even porn with Asian and Japanese stars right?”. The response is always “it’s not the same thing”.
