Any relation to Boyd Crowder?
Libertarianism makes the same mistake that Ayn Rand made which is that when people act in their own best interest, as determined by them, they will invariably act in the best interest for all. This is demonstrably false.
So nice to see this guy back in Young Sheldon (which is SO much better than TBBT)
Libertarian socialism has nothing to do with right wing libertarianism, if you try to understand it that way then it will make no sense.
It dates from the 1850s and is based around the idea that Marxism would lead to dictatorship. Both Libertarian Socialists and Marxists believed that the end point of socialism was anarchist-communism, but they disagreed on how to get there. This eventually led to the split in the First International when Karl Marx expelled them. Libertarian Marxism was a way of finding a middle ground between the two.
We are convinced that liberty without socialism is privilege, injustice; and that socialism without liberty is slavery and brutality.

Peter Kropotkin’s The Conquest of Bread (yes, it’s the bread book) is pretty much the anti Ayn Rand, if that helps. He also wrote Mutual Aid: A Factor in Evolution.
The most relevant Libertarian Socialists right now are probably Noam Chomsky and Murray Bookchin (The other Vermont socialist, he died in 2006 but his ideas are alive in Kurdistan)
I keep waiting for someone to bring up King Arthur Flour on the debate stage…
Not only that, I also chose a shithole country, can you imagine that. That was so dumb. I definitely would not do that again.
Denmark is, even now, is being crushed under the hobnailed jackboot of universal healthcare.
Citizens of that sad, enslaved country gnash their teeth and tear at the clothes every time they do not have to pay exorbitantly for normal procedures, every time they do not have to forgo checkups, every time they do not have to pay exorbitantly for proscribed medications, every time they have to forgo optical/dental appointments, every time they aren’t cheated by a rapacious HMO, every time they aren’t maxed out or refused coverage due to preexisting conditions, every time they don’t have to declare bankruptcy and/or create a kickstarter to fund a needed operation.
How long, you ask, will these citizens tolerate this condition? Sadly, and ironically, much longer than without being under this thralldom, since their life expectancy is so much higher.
Did Rand really care about people acting in the best interest for all? The impression I always got was that she wasn’t that bothered, you can act in the best interest of all if you feel like it but those plebs better not nag you about it.
Admittedly my Rand scholarship isn’t particularly deep.
I stand somewhat corrected.
Uh, I was a dyed in the wool Randite so I sorta know what I’m talking about. Read everything. Even subscribed to the insanely expensive newsletter. Then I grew up and felt rather stupid. But at the very heart of the ‘philosopy’ was that acting in your own interest somehow was acting for the good of all. Sounds a bit like coummunisim to me.
Fundamental in these sorts of rants is the conflation of Marxism and authoritarianism. The only Marxist governments we’ve had have been Marxist dictatorships where the emphasis was on the dictator part and the amount of Marxism was very small to non-existent. Most of their rule was spent convincing the masses that utopia was around the corner while they robbed the country of its resources.

…if at last all of you jerks admit i am king arthur and i would take care of all your goods and dogs and sextoys as if there were mine yet
Marco Rubio’s recent rant on socialism accidentally proved Marx right
but as would say clint in the good side of the gun ‘having right or wrong as nozing to do with politic’
