On a phone? Thumbs would be awkward. The fingerprint sensor is usually right where your index finger is when you look at a phone.
Hmm… I use my thumb… With the phone in your hand it’s the only free finger unless you want to do some two-hand phone action.
Ah, wait, we’re talking about different sensors, I’ll bet.
Most Android phones, I believe, have them on the back, by the camera.
iPhones have them on the front, where a thumb would make more sense, yes.
Oh I see! That does make more sense.
My Samsung fingerprint sensor is on the button in front, as in this picture.
I find it hard to believe you can scrape prints from “photos taken at 3m distance.” From what camera? With what level of compression? If you can come into possession of a sufficiently high-res photo, taken from just the right angle, you probably already have all you need to break into their shit. I suppose you could surveil them and take the photo with this intention, but there are probably other ways to get into the device that are less work… But the point is probably a good one; if you have sensitive shit on your device, use more than just a fingerprint.
Good Morning America reported on this story this morning, and presented as something primarily young women and girls do, and I doubt they got the story from Cory.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh doubtful.
I’ll wait for this to filter through before I find it plausible.
My HTC has it on the back. Awkward at first but now I love it.
Too bad I can’t go to peace rallies anymore without fear of somebody stealing my fingerprints.
Hah! I suppose I should be wary of certain hand gestures as well…
pfft socialism. Go back to russia, you commie-pinko-guy before I call the office of unamerican activities on you.
I didn’t expect to find myself living in the future but here i fucking well am.
Concern trolling at its finest - no one’s picking off your fingerprint from less than a few inches away
That’s a very effeminate Thrawn. What’s the story there?
I approve of this outfit.
some fan art…only thing I could find that showed him with gloves at first.
how about this one?
In theory it’s possible to read license plates from satellites, but it requires such perfect conditions and equipment that it’s still extremely remote.
Same thing here. The quality of the lens optics is the limiting factor in resolution these days. And they have no Moore’s law curve. Filmmakers routinely buy $50k lens sets to use with $10k cameras just to get sharp 4k.
It’s still WAY more likely that your fingerprint would be compromised from a water glass or such.
It’s pretty common knowledge that the best practice for security today is to require something you know (password), something you have (cryptokey), and something you are (biometrics). People who don’t trust biometrics only get to use 2 of the 3 which is less secure.
