New rideshare service bets women are ready to leave Uber's sleazy, rape-friendly service

No one insinuated that. This isn’t about you.

That Malcolm X quote is essentially what my girlfriend says to me regarding sexism- that despite my yearning to be female, I’m actually making more of a difference by being a feminist man in a sexist, patriarchal world than I could if I were actually part of the group being oppressed. I wish I could think of more to do besides voting in favor of women’s rights and not letting people be sexist around me, though. A lot of advice for male feminists seems to be along the lines of calling out your awful misogynist friends when they say something casually sexist, ignoring the fact that most feminist men avoid those sorts of people and don’t become friends with them in the first place.

Believe me, that’s a SHITLOAD more than what many guys so! You can’t fix the world on your own, all you can do is make your little corner of it better, which it sounds like you are.

That story does not appear to be an example of a cisgendered man claiming to be a trans woman. The article explicitly states several times that the person in question neither appeared to be a trans woman nor stated that they self-identified as a woman. The staff at the public pool also explicitly stated that trans women are welcome in this locker room.

It appears that this was simply a case of a pervy cisgendered man with a willful misunderstanding of the law.

The remedied injury from gender discrimination is where it ends.

The remedy is based on a history of actual real world injuries from discriminatory practices, not hypothetical, pretend injuries.

Remedies for injuries like increased risk of rape from Uber discriminate by gender since the injuries were caused by discriminatory practices.

It doesn’t work in reverse because there’s no discriminatory injury to remedy.

White men were not historically subjected to an increased risk of discriminatory injuries from Uber.

I don’t know, maybe they’re MRA assholes trying to make a point. The question remains: what do Chariot drivers do when someone they perceive as a man (or boy over 13) tries to get in the car? “That never ever happens!” is not an answer to that question.

Presumably the same thing that happens when someone that Curves Gym perceives as a man tries to sign up as a member, or someone that the staff of a Women’s shelter perceives as a man comes looking for aid.

I don’t know exactly what happens in those situations, or indeed if those situations ever happen at all. I imagine it could very well turn into an ugly confrontation. But that kind of unlikely hypothetical doesn’t seem like grounds for dismissing the entire organizational model.

I’m not dismissing it, I think it’s a good idea, and well-intended. I’m just thinking about how it could backfire and wind up harming some of the people it’s intended to protect.

Never heard of that website, so I checked it out. The Religious Liberty section has only stories about Christians, not any other religious group. I’m getting a sense about this website…

edited to add: Ooooh…it’s a Heritage Foundation thing.

It is a valid story, but the King 5 news article is far less sensational. If you’re being a creep of ANY gender flavor, you should get kicked out. But somehow, I’ve never had a lesbian creep on me in the ladies’ room.

I mean wouldn’t a ladies room be the least romantic place… I mean… menstruation stuff happens there!
