New York's governor deploys National Guard to protect subway riders

It’s not working, I can see them very plainly in @smulder’s photo.

The one thing we do know is that it’s insufficient.

It’s been done for airplane flights for years. Has anyone challenged it?

The NYPD interpretation of NY state law and MTA regulations is that it is illegal to carry a knife on the subway.

"Can I carry a knife in the NYC Transit System?

No. Weapons, dangerous instruments, or any other items intended for use as a weapon may not be carried anywhere within the NYC Transit System."

A kitchen knife, especially in its original packaging or sealed in a box, should be perfectly acceptable provided you don’t intend to use it as a weapon. But I can see an over-zealous cop confiscating it in the name of “public safety”.

Wait, are you saying that’s not a shrub with a missile weapon hung up on it?
