That was, and still remains, an utterly baffling design choice! You gain nothing yet lose some of the portability and that nifty clamshell protection for the screens.
I like it. At least it was useful for the kid who was a bit too hard on the clamshell and they are pricey enough for something you break easily. The 3D gave me headaches and the button placement is nicer on the 2DS and no weakpoint hinge to fuck up. The savings on the 2D version is nice too.
Well, fair enough. For kids i suppose the hinges could be easily damaged by being a bit too rough on it, i used to own a DS lite and even when being careful with it one hinge still developed a small crack.
