Surprise! Voting app maker roasted by computer boffins for poor security now begs US courts to limit flaw finding
Voatz, the maker of a blockchain-based mobile election voting app pilloried for poor security earlier this year, has urged the US Supreme Court not to change the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), a law that critics say inhibits security research because it’s overly broad.
There’s a battery-free Game Boy that runs solely on the power of sunlight and the speed of your button-mashing
Video Engineers have overhauled the classic handheld 8-bit Game Boy to include solar panels on the front and an internal electromagnetic coil to generate electrical energy from button presses. Not so much batteries not included as batteries not needed.
Unfortunately, the console is not for sale and it’s not officially affiliated with Nintendo. Instead, it’s a research project that seems to be intended as some sort of a metaphorical middle finger to modern IoT gizmos.
This just gets worse and worse as it goes along.
I went down a k-hole of reading the IEEE website and ran across this fascinating analysis of the 737 MAX’s software deficiencies.
tl;dr: Boeing cut corners and had a software development culture far removed from the needs of actual pilots
That is one obscure movie reference
I was afraid it was going to be something like the “grain silo” scenes in Witness and A Quiet Place
Apple commits to support human rights - ‘We believe in the critical importance of an open society’*
Apple has posted a Human Rights Policy in an attempt to placate shareholders and quell criticism of its handling of censorship requests.
The Cupertino maker of various iStuff on Friday published a four-page board-approved document [PDF] outlining its stance on supporting human rights, with a few caveats.
“We’re required to comply with local laws, and at times there are complex issues about which we may disagree with governments and other stakeholders on the right path forward,” Apple cautions.
But they aren’t required to do business in those countries.
For the love of God, do NOT flush it down the toilet to get rid of it!
Truck this!
Oh, hell, Kiddo loves these stupid things. She had two pickle jars full fo them sitting on the counter for months for … reasons … and when they started growing algae and smelling like pond water in summer I tossed them in the trash on pickup day. They will probably fester in the landfill for eternity.
Someone was feeling silly…
Cross-posted in White Culture, as it fits in both.
That account is always silly. There are even recurring silly characters.
Oh dear holy gods of small children please do not ever let my kid discover these things exist.
