Odd Stuff (Part 3)

Same. A vicarious adrenaline rush!

I’m sure the fact that they were largely terrible, unnecessary, and soulless movies that nobody asked for and seemed to have little interest in watching had nothing to do with it, either. (IOW I’d imagine that they weren’t box office successes had more to do with it than the questionable people attached to it but it’s always easy to blame the audience.)

I mean the first film was ok-ish (especially given the source material wasn’t even really a story so much as a reference guide), the second was really bad, and the third was just fucking atrocious.

The blatant and completely nonsensical attempts to shoehorn things into the greater Harry Potter that had introduced massive continuity problems and had timelines that made no sense at best.

I have watched the entire series multiple times and yet I don’t remember this episode. I must have blocked it from my memory. Might need to pull out my DVD box set and give it a watch.

100 Mastodon myths:

  1. Mastodon is hard.

FALSE. It’s a "soft"ware. Not hardware.

  1. You have to use Linux to post on Mastodon.

FALSE. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are also supported.

  1. You need to learn to use the Vim editor before posting on Mastodon.

  1. Mastodon is only for computer nerds.

The lights of ZeroNet:

I finally gave it that GeoDB it was asking for. Sites using TOR will probably show up as the location of their exit node. Interesting number of Iran nodes. A distributed hash table setup should route around national firewalls like an octopus opening a jar, but they are kind of broadcasting their IP address. (I’m still not sure if it uses a proper DHT. The bloody code has no comments or docs!)

I wonder where the “Other” nodes are, a parallel world 70 years ahead of ours?

And they blew up his house, too

Oh, that’s good.

I did some research into Mastadon yesterday and after the deluge of confusing terms and jargon I kind of backed away.

Where do I go to sign up? How do I know if it’s the “right” place? How do I know if I can find others who I’m interested in? Just basic things like this buried behind all the gushy but meaningless praise about “the fediverse!” and “decentralization!” without really giving practical information about what’s in it for me as a user or even how to get started without wasting a bunch of time. And I’m a tech guy, FFS.

I just don’t have time or interest right to figure out how to use some brand new thing I guess.

Considering the conspiracy types that run it, don’t use it, but “keep it going in case SHTF”, perhaps it’s the QAnon center of the country?

I’ve heard that Sarah Huckabee Sanders is redecorating the Governor’s Office to have a litter box instead of a bathroom.

Pass it on!
