“This is about as far back as you can go unless you’re a Viking,” Norton responded. “Makes you realize what a small piece of the whole human story you are.”

If he really was descended from Pocahontas, he could go back quite a bit further on her side of the family.

They’ve come a long way in ten years from just those three categories. Though still not without controversy. And time limits. It’s based upon were people were 500 years ago? Doesn’t mean populations were there earlier.

I think the category must be European colonizer. Back in Europe or Indigenous doesn’t count. It has to be an ancestor in North America who could say “Hey! I’m colonizing here!”

Iceland can trace people back 30 generations- so Ed wasn’t completely wrong.

But:

“ What is the farthest back someone can trace their lineage?

The oldest traceable family tree is that of the Chinese Kang clan, which documents the family’s lineage over 5200 years and more than 80 generations! This family tree contains over 2 million descendants, including the great philosopher Confucius”

Or so they say.

Edit:

Interesting

It’s like it’s a Young America Creationism, where North America didn’t exist until after 1492 and before the Saints stepped ashore at Plymouth. Indigenous people just happened to be there when it was created.

Her father is known. But I doubt there’s records beyond him.

I don’t know if they traced other parts of his ancestry further- didn’t watch the show.

There was some last minute stage management to shuffle around vikings and Lost Tribes of Israel. (“What are they doing here?” “They’re in this draft, but you have to read it with a seer stone.”)

Reminds me of this story about Yo-Yo Ma’s family records*:

*Not sure if they restored any more since this was recorded.

“… and I didn’t have time to re-roll all the NPC’s. Just rotate the map 90 degrees and say all the names with a French accent. Trust me, it’ll be fine.”

Who would want a private communications service that isn’t tracked by law enforcement?

Organized crime? Insurrectionist “militias”? Apologies- I just repeated myself.
