Today, a man (54) and a woman (51) were arrested by Shizuoka Prefectural Police for hosting an orgy in the town of Kosei. Some 120 people attended the orgy at a rented villa, where they each paid 10,000 yen for the event. Another man (52) and woman (34) were arrested for public lewdness after evidently getting caught in the act.

People came from all over Japan for the party after signing up on social media. Sources say that it was an annual shindig.

“Good (encouraging) Stuff” that became “Fuck, Today” and then “All Cops are Buttheads?”

ETA: Not “Fuck Today,” but “Fuck, Today.”

Why were they arrested? Is hosting an orgy illegal in Japan?

I am not a lawyer (and definitely not a Japanese lawyer), but the newspapers I am seeing say that the hosts are being charged with “facilitating public lewdness, etc.” I am also seeing commentary to the effect that the large number of participants effectively made the party “public.” I am thinking that the “etc.” part might be implying that the prosecutors are considering other charges, and I think it may be illegal to charge money for participation in such an event.

Details are still coming out in a trickle and I don’t know (for instance) how visible or audible this party was to others in the neighborhood and whatnot.

Interesting! Thanks for explaining.
Kinda silly to call a private party public just because it was big. Sounds like they are stretching for charges. But while I am a lawyer, I am certainly not a Japanese criminal lawyer

Japan still has a lot of weird laws when it comes to what can broadly be described as the “sex trade.”
Pornography is plentiful, but genitalia has to be fully censored. It is perfectly legal to pay somebody for oral sex, but only for oral sex (because the legal definition of prostitution only specifically mentions PiV sex - so I suppose that you could pay for anal sex too). Strip clubs are a no go, but cabaret clubs rent out girls for “dates.”

At the very least, though, the hosts should have had a license.
