do not leave hooks in any fish!
yes, that would be incredibly dangerous, but using specific hook retrieving tools that are required onboard everyfishing boat in florida waters means the animal is not left with hardware stuck in their grills.
the story is - in this case - the shark became entangled in the fishing lines that were out. this is doubly dangerous to the shark due to the chance for cutting into and even amputating fins. loose and discarded lines pose one of the greatest threats to marine life there is.
get as much line and - hopefully - the terminal tackle back as you possibly can without endangering craft or crew.
also: sharks are cool!
