On 22 October, 1967 the trio entered the Neuburg base with Knoppe’s base security pass, taking advantage of the thick fog that evening. They identified the missile in an ammunition depot and put it in a wheelbarrow, driving down the entire runway before placing it in Ramminger’s Mercedes Sedan outside the base. It being too big to lay flat, Ramminger broke the rear window to poke it through. To not catch the police’s attention, he covered the missile up with a carpet and noting the protrusion with a piece of red cloth, which was required by law.

This needs to be a film.

IIRC Ramminger even was stopped by the police while hauling the Sidewinder - but told them it was a prop for a float in the next carnival parade. This being in Krefeld, he got away with it.

They should ban the freaking things, I know most emergency rooms would be super happy.

I know there’s logic behind it, but I can’t help being amused by the fact he labelled his oversized load properly while making his getaway. Acts of international espionage - perfectly ok, but we can’t break traffic laws while doing so.

Are you a hacker who happens to miss their Blackberry? Looks like there’s a new product that’s just your speed: the “Beepberry.” It literally grafts the keyboard of a Blackberry Classic onto a pocketable custom board designed to fit a Raspberry Pi Zero W, all paired with a 400 x 240 “Memory LCD” screen that looks like it was ripped from an old graphing calculator — but is a bit more sophisticated.

Beepberry is designed by Eric Migicovsky, founder of the gone-but-not-forgotten Pebble smartwatch and more relevantly co-founder of Beeper: the hacky all-in-one messenging app that stuffs every service from WhatsApp to iMessage (using a jailbroken iPhone) into one place.
