Odd Stuff (Part 5)

“ A year on from the Titan submersible disaster, the OceanGate co-founder is organising a trip to one of the world’s deepest underwater sinkholes.

Guillermo Söhnlein, 58, co-founded OceanGate in 2009 with Stockton Rush, who died in last year’s submersible implosion at the age of 61.

After leaving the company in 2013, Mr Söhnlein co-founded another underwater exploration company, Blue Marble Exploration, and it has set its sights on a 663-feet previously unexplored sinkhole.”

it would be really cool to send deep-water drones, ROVs, into the deepest known cenotes (blue holes) to possibly map the underground flow of fresh and seawater. these do not need to be crewed missions by humans.
the sensationalist desire to harken back to an imagined “golden age” of white, colonialist exploration exploitation, serves absolutely no scientific purpose. we all know it is self-glorifying bullshit with no real purpose, other than to boost some inflated egos.

cenotes, blue holes… sinkholes.

The Stingray is a widely used law enforcement tool that allows police to intercept cell phone signals and data. Known technically as an IMSI catcher or a “Cell Site Simulator,” it essentially conducts a Man-in-the-Middle attack, emulating the signals of a cell phone tower and drawing in unsuspecting mobile traffic.
