Oh, Samantha M. Quimby what have you done…
Does that class as a cry for help?
Matt Johnson would like a word…
My nephew just transferred to THE OSU.
It does
The REAL OSU doesn’t need no stinkin’ “The”
Expect a challenge to come from THE University of Michigan forthwith.
:studies this article for clues.
:finds no answers.
Do they? If so, I have a feeling it’s not that super.
And if they are pissy about “THE” being left out of their name, it’s their own damned fault.
I feel like someone needs to sell competing shirts in the same colors with “AN” on it.
My dad was U of M law grad. There’ll be a lot of eye rolling at the law school and among lawyers in the state of Michigan.
I’m also an alumnus of one of the many institutions of higher learning in Ohio that were founded before Ohio State (Miami University, founded in 1809).
I am also rolling my eyes so hard frankly you should be impressed I can still type.
The big house is less than a mile from my current location. I’ll be able to hear the collective groan tonight when this hits Detroit TV news.
Only if the person selling the competing shirts runs a school called An Ohio State University. If Donald Trump can start a university, how hard can it be?
I’m sure he had people for that. I can’t imagine him not having trouble starting a car.
The only thing that bores me more than frivolous trademark applications is pointless inter-school sports rivalry. Yawn.
There are a bunch of state universities in Ohio, so these would work:
Ohio University: An Ohio State University
Miami University: An Ohio State University
Bowling Green State University: An Ohio State University
Kent State University: An Ohio State University
And so on.
The first concern brought up on Twitter was how University of Miami would react considering they use “The U.”
5 seconds of googling later I find out Miami has “it’s all about The U” trademarked and someone else has “The U” trademarked for a TV station in Chicago.
Anyway college football is stupid there I said it.
Same here, I’m an Ohio University grad, which likewise began in 1809 (versus Ohio State’s 1870 founding).
In the 90s, Ohio State commonly used this logo:
And Ohio University responded with this:
Why do they want to remind people? What does that accomplish? This seems like a complete waste of energy.
