One Nuke Dump to Rule Them All

“The Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act would officially mark Nevada’s Yucca Mountain as the nation’s nuclear waste repository, once and for all.”

The one and only benefit : “Trains hauling nuclear waste would be running near Trump International Hotel Las Vegas.”

“…the federal government faces deeply entrenched opposition in Nevada. The state has filed 218 contentions against the Department of Energy’s application for the storage site, detailing both technical and legal concerns. Going through the contentions will take an estimated four to five years of hearings and cost the federal government $2 billion—all before the shovel even hits the ground.” -The Atlantic

Est. Cost: “The Department of Energy estimated in 2008 that the project as a whole would require up to $96 billion to complete; it’s already cost taxpayers $15 billion. Yucca Mountain, about 90 miles from Las Vegas, was selected in 1987 as the only site to be considered for a national nuclear waste repository.”
