Probably should have had someone other than NCDOT engineer Robert Bullock explain what was going on. He made it sound like they sort of winged it…even using the word ‘wing.’
There’s no need to rebuild it. But they should change its appearance, so it doesn’t look like it’s about to collapse. Not only will that save the Department of Transportation all those annoying phone calls, it will avert the inevitable crashes caused by drivers avoiding apparent danger by moving into real danger.
I think @morcheeba was kidding about dazzle paint, but that might be a real solution.
The news has a regular segment about “what drives you crazy on the road”? Americans drive too fucking much.
So would this be an accurate restatement of your position?
“Hey, people who have never seen this and may be fooled into thinking something is wrong here, don’t worry, because, you know, science and shut.”
The monitor in the newsroom also looks like it is leaning dangerously.
Flyover, or bridge work fine (esp. here in UK) but not ‘flyover bridge’ which is tautology.
But I suppose it distinguishes it from a flyunder bridge or a flyover tunnel.
But it doesn’t.
Engineers do tend to be better at doing rather than saying.
