Reminds me of when I use to rando ride - anything from 200k to 24-hour events (they’re popular in the Pac NW because, you know, our weather is so danged good lol). I haven’t done any rando rides myself, though in the early 2000s I did do some 200k invitationals, and even some longer solo rides (my record was 150 miles). These days, I generally prefer 60-80 miles, and after fixing up my long-neglected recumbent bike (replacing worn-out wheels and drivetrain), did my first century in 11 years early this month.
The invitationals I did were a good reminder that Illinois isn’t always flat - but river bluffs still don’t compare to actual mountains.
