While I personally love the idea of tiny houses, efficient living spaces, etc. THIS is what always pops into my mind when people complain about the regulatory hurdles keeping them from implementing their ideas. How do we allow people to live “small” voluntarily without landlords churning out “housing” fit for a slave galley?
Have they heard about this in San Francisco, yet?
Whenever I hear people promoting KonMari decluttering tips (especially when it is called out as uniquely Japanese or (barf) “Zen”), this is what I usually think of. I have never seen a country with so many profligate hoarders.
Are these deathtraps even legal? I would have figured Tokyo to be pretty strict about fire codes considering its density, seismic situation, and not-too-distant history.
