Lettuce wraps?
I’ve been there, and I think “Ants… tons and tons of ants everywhere. And they all want to bite you.”.
As far as the people, everyone we ran into was genuinely really nice to random american tourists. Even got into a blowgun fight with the son of the person who ran a little motel in a small riverside town (he was showing us how to use them, and started making blunt darts which, as a bunch of teen boys, we started shooting at each other). Next day we saw him, all smiles because he knew us, at the local military guardpost with an auto rifle collecting passports as you went into the “wild interior”…
The people are still there, it’s just their way of life that has been vanishing along with the forests their cultures developed in.
