Please clap: it's how Medium writers are going to be paid

I have an ongoing thread of thought about how an individual can issue personal currency that is backed directly by their own contributions to society (using some verifiability of contribution and block chains). Underpinning this would be a need to properly understand what the worth to society of a contribution actually is so as to value your net worth (and it really would be a net worth!).

One can see how this might work for digital content, but I’m still grappling with physical goods and services.

Medium is hostile to mobile device users. Every page has a non-closable pop-up that says “Open In App” with no way to get rid of it.

Yeah, if this is supposed to be some sort of quality assessment, then I’d say they need the “Slap” button MORE then they need a clap button.
Medium has taken a sharp turn into clickbait county lately; more than once I’ve started reading what I thought was an earnest report from them just to realize that it was actually some satire piece from their “comedy” writers, but written with so little humor that it had backed into Poes law.
If the site would enable me to actually punish those writers - and editors - for wasting my time, it´d be pretty neat.

I hope Medium will use the clap count to decide how to divide up each reader’s applause credit as opposed to as an absolute value including claps from all readers. The former makes some sense in that one could clap several times for one’s favorite authors, give a clap to something one liked and skip the rest. It would also let Medium value paying customers’ applause more than that of those of us in the peanut gallery. If they use an absolute scheme, they are basically asking for a DDOS attack.

Jeepers. I don’t have a lot of likes, but I have given 1300 of them (I would have guessed like 200). All well considered and sincere, no less!
