This begs the question: who decides who is allowed to be part of a permitted assembly? Unless participants are required to register in advance, can’t anyone join in the ̶m̶a̶y̶h̶e̶m̶ fun?
How can any religious person not listen to the creepy monotonous chanting they’re taking part in and think “hang on, isn’t this all a bit… weird?”
That’s his gambit and I wish more people would deploy this tactic. Get the Bible banned in Florida for depictions of incest, rape and ”deviant lifestyles”. Get bigots fired under “religious liberty” laws. Infiltrate churches and record them advocating for politicians and start a trend of getting their tax exemptions revoked. Fight fire with gasoline.
About ten years ago now, a bunch of us did a counter-protest to the first big anti-choice rally in Dublin following Savita Hallapanavar’s death. I made a sign that said KEEP YOUR AMERICAN MONEY OUT OF OUR IRISH DEBATE and it was just long enough that people marching by would be too far away to yell or pick a fight by the time they’d finished reading it. Didn’t get hassle from the cops about it though.
Isn’t the point of being religious to NOT question the creepy monotonous chanting?
Those tax exemptions are sadly pretty iron clad. Most sermons these days are recorded and put on Youtube, yet the IRS doesn’t do anything when churches are caught red handed saying, “you need to vote for insert fascist here”
