If you want to polish metal without rounding edges (and make it really shiny), consider wet tumbling with stainless steel pins. It’s used to clean/polish brass for reloading, and I can tell you that it works really well on everything from small jewelry parts to blacksmithed bits of iron and steel that have had the firescale removed.

You can use the little cylinder pieces of steel for polishing, and the nubby ended ones for a polish that’s really more of burnishing…
