He may be one of the most progressive Popes ever, but he is still far from being what most people would consider “progressive”.
My observation is there is a lot of gay clergy… My theory is because a devout gay Catholic figures if they are celibate then they aren’t “sinning” and can serve God.
And with the whole celibate rule (which is a small “t” tradition and could be changed), it probably isn’t helping recruiter heterosexual priests.
For an Argentine, he’s certainly picked up Italian vernacular fast enough.
Although there’s the old South American joke that Argentines are people who think they’re English, speak Spanish, and are actually Italian, so maybe some of these terms were already part of Sig. Bergoglio’s vocabulary.
They do kind of have this notion that you’re supposed to organize things without taking over the city or military (but also, both that and being Pope.) They’re in a bunch of medical practice outreach-y things (St. Mary Woodstock Hippopotamus of Biking From Costco and Lead Filtration of Cincinnati West etc.) and Hospice in the USA. But maybe they already blew the way of private colleges with no battened down Fiduciary Boards?
