“Full externality adaptive logistics” will make just-in-time look obsolete; bro! And no, it’s totally different than plunder because our version is app enabled.
In that respect, I’m not sure that’s any different from the porch pirates following the delivery vehicles around, though - they follow the vehicle, stop when the delivery truck stops, and have time to get out and be prepared to nab the package before the delivery person eventually gets out of the truck with it. Some just nab everything, but there’s the opportunity to assess and be selective, too. Seems like it would only be definitive if they are stealing just AT&T phones, or they caught people with manifests (which it sounds like they did, in at least one instance), or they’re showing up before the delivery vehicles and waiting.
Premeditated porch package pilferer.
Maybe schoolhouse rock has an episode on humans who engage in asinine activity.
I’ve ordered most of my phones online, and think aside from the earliest I’ve had to sign for them and show id before the delivery driver would hand them over. Is signing for deliveries not a thing in the US? It seems like a simple solution to the porch pirates unless I’m missing something.
Pro tip: don’t re-use a Honeybaked Ham carton to ship something of value.
Ship the phones in big boxes labeled lima beans. Or Cologuard.
I know I wouldn’t touch a box with lima beans or a Cologuard box.
My pet peeve when making big ticket purchases is that a good number of things i’ve bought before that were expensive were shipped in boxes that clearly called out what was inside. Expensive collectible figures, electronics and other things just freely advertising what it was. Thankfully i never had any of those stolen but it wouldn’t have taken much effort for someone to notice it was worth taking.
At least UPS now charges for delivery changes, including to a UPS location, unless you pay for an annual membership. I don’t know about FedEx but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were doing the same.
Remember, you aren’t the customer, you’re the product!
So far, they’re not. (It depends on the particular shipment whether it’s actually possible; IME it usually is.)
