Possible PBBB laptop RPG game

I’m drawing a complete blank on how to proceed from here, so I was hoping someone else would have an idea.

There’s not much I can do to move things along until somebody decides to start digging somewhere…

Then I’m just gonna say, “No! You shut up, BBS!” and tell you Thwips’ plan of attack.

With his parchment and pen he is going to make a map of the entire site. He will mark all noticeable dips. He will mark all noticeable rises. He will mark where he thinks signs of support pillars should be but aren’t. And he will mark any signs of support pillars being where they shouldn’t. Any skeletons under heavy stones will also be noted.

He will also mark where the pendulum oscillated in an unusual way.

When he is done with that, he will ask the others to gather so we can discuss the best part to dig will be.

Would a long chain running through a series of thin metal tubes that can be collapsed and kept in a pocket be beyond the gizmo skill? I’ve been trying to find an example but my google-fu has failed me.

Gizmo by the book:

A Gizmo must be small enough to fit in an ordinary coat pocket, and must meet one of three criteria:

  1. An item you own but did not specifically state you were carrying. For instance, if you own a handgun, and get ambushed while driving to church, you could pull out your pistol – even if the police searched your vehicle five minutes ago and found no weapons!
  2. An item that you probably own, and that is in keeping with your character concept, but that is minor or ignorable enough to leave unspecified. For instance, a policeman might happen to be carrying a spare handcuff key, while a wizard might have some eye of newt. The GM has the final say, but should be lenient if the item you wish to have is consistent with your character story.
  3. An inexpensive device widely available at your tech level. For instance, if you need to light the fuse on some dynamite, you could pull out a box of matches – and they would work, even if you just took an involuntary swim in the creek.

Given who Thwip is, I’m willing to interpret “probably own” very leniently. Some sort of extendible pokey thing certainly isn’t out of the question.

Then I will update my post. Let me know if it steps out of bounds.

BTW, de Courcy can choose to wake up whenever he feels like it. And I promise y’all that things will get more interesting as soon as you decide to dig a hole in the right spot.

Yeah. As my character said, I can’t think of anything useful he can do to help with no knowledge of architecture, especially since controlling something large enough and intelligent enough to “burrow until you hit stone” would probably be more exhausting to him than just digging random holes would be.

I’ll post more when my character has something useful to do.

I’ll post more when my character has something useful to do.

There’s always room for a third to bring wacky hijinks.

If it wasn’t obvious I wrote a form of gibberish English with a few words from other languages tossed in. But it largely follows the English sentence structure.

“Tisis distruktif arkyology ti wat tis. Te kiet sid bii eisrt’ fin yin yiss ifin te kenhid wat gut. Unt evwon in hiis woun ken yin yewsta sevrin hoist!”

“This is destructive archaeology. The gate should be well-placed if the engineer was any good. And everyone knows you use a hoist!”

“Ifin yin wans te kookin hawls yin, aye. Eyewon kent hed fir ta oori boing mae te hur sunds.”

“If you want, you hit all of the depressions. I want to listen to the sounds it makes to see if we hit something hollow.”

Maybe I’ll try to work out some sort of basic vocabulary for his native language when I get the time. Might help me keep his accent straight too.

I think that with my current abilities, I can summon and maintain a human-sized swarm of burrowing insects to loosen the dirt for “free” and for an indefinite period of time. @Wanderfound, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Actually, you can control about half a dozen swarms.

Each spell “on” gives a -1 to the casting of other spells; you can keep casting Control Vermin as many times as you can manage to soak the skill penalty. Each casting gives you a one-hex swarm of earthworms etc. The only risk is the chance of a critical failure if you push your luck too far (plus the 1FP cost of any failed casting attempt).

They can’t actually remove the soil, but they can turn it into potting mix that can be easily scooped out by hand. Want to write the narrative post for that yourselves?

Hah! Ranar often doesn’t even understand people speaking his own language, but sometimes a noncommittal response might draw out more clarification. His best guess was something along the lines of “If you want to keep lookin’ around here, ok. I want to head for the other building, here is nothing.”

Four swarms controlled, 1FP expended.

Four swarms. I can work with that.

Who’s scooping out the dirt?

We have two muscle mens who have been snoozing off some high times…

Just a heads-up/bump notice.

We’re about to head underground (as soon as you tell me who’s digging) where there’s likely to some action. It’d be good if all players were involved and paying attention when that happens.
