Cooper’s Hawk drowning a ground squirrel.
She caught it, then awkwardly worked it over to the water dish and held its head under the water until it stopped squirming, then started for what my parents refer to as The Plucking Tree. But it turned out to not be dead, so she carried it back and held it for longer.
We had heard of this behavior before, but had never witnessed it.
