Q&A on Non-Moderation Matters (Mechanics, How-To, etc.)

That may work provided Discourse doesn’t change their format. They key problem is that when the story is posted, it sometimes gets cached before the discourse plugin has been able to create the BBS topic and get the BBS URL from the api call. If it’s truly deterministic, you’re right, we should be able to massage the post slug into the url displayed instead.

You could also set it with javascript like this based on the page it is on: Boing Boing comments link · GitHub

The Show Full Post… buttons are not working very well for me today either

(EDIT) Short version: what @smulder just wrote.

Long version:

I’m noticing that the (sort of?) reverse is true: If I’m in the BBS, and click on “Show Full Post…” at the top, it just hangs on “Loading…” Not sure if one problem is related to the other. I can click on the “Originally published at…” link and open it on the main site, but loading it in the BBS seems to be problematic since at least earlier today. I’m using Firefox and it’s the same deal in both Android and Windows.

I’ve had to resort to going to the main page to read articles today. I’m feeling all discombobulated.

… I do try to keep all my posts as short as possible, on the theory that nobody reads long posts and nobody owes us their time anyway

Me either.

Working now. Yay! Thank you!!

Reading the articles on the main page wasn’t entirely awful, but I’m super happy that I can stop going back and forth between the articles and the comments.

I reached out to the Discourse team for this one.

I might have asked about this before: some (I don’t believe all) threads have a broken display. (This is on Firefox for Android; I have UBlock Origin & NoScript add-ons but I’ve tried it with them turned off.) They scroll so the content overlaps (instead of disappearing at) the header and it also overlaps the edit box, when applicable.

Like, on this thread it’s OK, but on the Jan 6 thread it breaks:

None of the Discourse controls work at that point & neither does cut/paste/etc. Only thing I can do is close the window and re-open (butnif i come back to that thread it happens again).

That thread has a whole lot of external content pasted into it so I suspect that has something to do with it. Maybe there’s some conflicting HTML/CSS in there that could be excised, but OTOH I don’t see this happen in Windows Firefox (with same add-ons).

Same here.

Appreciated.
I hope they manage to fix it soon.

I continue to experience this because i dare to go nuclear on scripts…

OK, I noticed on a different thread (Dead Celebrity) that allowing “crwdcntrl.net” seems to help (though I thought I’d already let that one through).

Pretty much all the posts now.

All the links to the comments forum appear to be broken, at least the ones I’ve tried. I saw there was a thread about this but everything was merged here, so here I am. Happy Halloween!

I’ve created a quick bookmarklet to fix the broken comments until there is a more permanent solution. If you drag the link on this page to your bookmarks toolbar, and click it when you are on a boingboing post, it will take you to the comments.

I’m actually pretty relieved to hear it’s a technical issue. Technical issues get fixed!
