Thanks for that workaround! Rotating to landscape fixes the layout for me too.
Lately it seems if I read an article on BB (even if I came to the article from the BBS) that the link to the comment section doesn’t work. Is that a timing issue? Seems to be happening with more frequency but that may be because I have been more active.
You’ve encountered the circular comment button of doom. As I understand, sometimes when the author posts an article, there is a timeout when creating the comments entry and the post is never updated to correctly point at the comments. Usually a moderator will manually fix it when you flag it. The workaround is to go to the forums and find the article.
Looks like strikethrough isn’t propagated on quote, not sure if double tilde or html tag is the problem.
Hmm. I see strikethroughs on both in the preview (edit: and the post itself too), and both are markdowning as double-tilde in the quote block.
Buh? Seems to work here. Although my original message used <strike> as the text instead of HTML tag, and quoting that was problematic.
I saw the problem when I quoted this comment. My strikethrough was manually added.
Thanks. That’s what I have been doing. Somewhere in my consciousness I remember someone mentioning it.
It seems “comment” links in most BB main blog articles no longer work (maybe some do…). Seems like this has been borked forever…wondering if this is even a priority anymore? Maybe this issue has its own topic by now.
… yeah, this is bad
It’s happening on so many posts over the last couple of days, most frustrating - especially when the comments link just takes you back to the main blog digest page you happened to be looking at.
Yes, I see that there have been several now closed posts about this, but boy howdy is it becoming more and more common lately. Just an FYI @orenwolf .
Also, in looking at the old posts, I realize now @GulliverFoyle hasn’t posted in almost a year.
Yeah, I noticed a significant proliferation of them over the last couple days as well. I was hesitant to report them since it feels like well-covered territory, but the spike has been notable.
Yep, sent an email inquiring about this yesterday. Don’t know if there’s busted code to blame or lazy editors… But it’s a giant PITA to have to hunt down every topic you want to comment on…
My money says a script broke somewhere. (I blame tumbeasts.)
There’s already a thread for such questions:
Edit:
Sorry if there’s any confusion in reading through recent posts. They come from this thread starter (now closed), which I thought i was also moving over here:
Came here looking for an answer to this question as well. Not a new problem by any means but seems to be worse recently.
Cool cool, maybe someone with the power can scooch this over there.
So I commented on this last year:
I was reluctant to use the nuclear option but if it’s bothering so many users I may have no choice and just update all “comments” links to point to the BBS homepage instead at this point.
If it is 3 or 4 times a week, I could live with it. If it was 1 or 2 a day, probably. But some days lately it is half the posts. I’ve just gritted my teeth for the past couple weeks, but it just was bad enough today I was like, “Maybe I should make sure people are aware.”
I’ve mentioned this before, but instead of hardcoding it to bbs.boingboing.net, you may be able to deterministically set the comments link based on the post slug.
Using this page as an example, do you know the slug of the page when the author posts, it seems to be based on the post title?
If you do, you could deterministically set the default comments link to:
https://bbs.boingboing/net/t/slug-value
i.e. for the post above you would set it to:
