Rates up? Your car might be talking to your insurance company

and lose speakerphone. that might be okay for some but not for me.

You really think that would stop them? Plus, there’s a good chance it’s buried in dealer paperwork.

That sucks but then I realized it’s probably a win/win if security is the first concern.

Even if you don’t drive the vehicle I’m sure they’ll geo-locate it and cross reference with the the vehicle theft or vandalism rate for that zip code.

i don’t know how it’s phrased in this case, but you did buy the car; it’s not hard to imagine gm ( or another company ) saying that’s enough

The very worst offender is Nissan. The Japanese car manufacturer admits in their privacy policy to collecting a wide range of information, including sexual activity, health diagnosis data, and genetic data — but doesn’t specify how. They say they can share and sell consumers’ “preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behavior, attitudes, intelligence, abilities, and aptitudes” to data brokers, law enforcement, and other third parties

Perhaps you are in a more enlightened jurisdiction than I; but between the fact that there’s enough software in the car to hang a clickwrap EULA that’s practically a code of laws from the first time the user boots it and any time you wish to make their continued authorization to use it contingent on accepting a change in the deal; and the fact that data brokerage is a shadowy business where most seem to go unnoticed; and most of those noticed seem to face little punishment aside from perhaps having to agree that targeted advertising for rape victims is too tasteless to continue or that they’ll need to set up under a new name; I’m forced to adopt the assumption that, if it is architecturally possible, the adversary is probably doing it.

They probably collect samples in the back room of auto detailing shops or during that free car wash they kept offering me when I went to the dealership for maintenance/repairs. :grimacing:

Microphone, and AI that can tell when sexy sounds are happening?

I assume it’s only tracking sexual activity inside the vehicle. If elsewhere too, well, it’s tough to even imagine how they’d do that.
