I wonder if adding some rubbing alcohol would thin it out a little bit.

You’d probably have to refresh it from time to time as it evaporated.

I’d have to vote for glycerine (pretty different phase, I dunno) or polyglycerine to thin it out. Maybe that ‘hand shield’ (Jungle Formula Brolly Liquid? Sure, Google.) stuff on there to make it touchy like in the photo. Best tint? Coating of the iron particles with nonstick ceramic stuff?
