This is terribly sad news. If you have not gotten around to it, everyone should read his graphic novel, March. He promoted it at SDCC, and cosplayed as himself, and even led a march at the con:

whether it’s from cancer or just old age, when he goes, I’m actually going to have to decide who to vote for in my district for the first time since moving here in '02. naturally, he had my vote anyway despite running unopposed for longer than that.
there’s basically no danger of his district flipping or anything, but new candidates are going to be wild-cards on some level, whereas Lewis is the sure-shot. hope the guy pulls through.
