The wonders and miracle of air conditioning my friend. Even being out all day for landscaping or othr such work there is the promise of sweet life affirming air conditioning to provide relief.
Update: The shooter, previously reported as being in critical condition, has died.
Bad synergy: reading this thread while getting a notification from the BBS thread for Watch This Reporter Scared Stiff On Live TV.
I just saw that.
Iâm unhealthily interested in his 25+ page faxâŚ
@emo_pinata - donât listen to them, it gets really cold, -35C, tho not that often, but -15C is pretty average winter day. BUT it also gets to +32C in the summer. We got nearly a 70 degree temperature spread.
@Donald_Petersen - I tried to look up the crime stats for a Canadian city the size of Monaco and failed⌠32k is the size of Innisfil and all I could find was reports of a foot-lickerâŚ
EDIT: ABC has just released some of the fax.
I was just picking high crime cities off the top of my head. Hereâs St Louis for you, and yeah, beats the snot out of Chicago as well. Chicago has the raw numbers, but itâs also a huge city so the number of murders per 1,000 people is actually pretty low in comparison to other cities.
I took my kids to the Toronto zoo a week ago. It was something like 95 degrees. Just sayinâ.
Hereâs a dumb question: how exactly are so very very many guns made by legit manufacturers finding their way to illegal resale? Are the manufacturers in on it, are the gun store guys crooked, are the crooks really good at jacking shipments, all of the above, something else?
I am more or less in favor of well-regulated private gun ownership, but it does seem like the regulation we currently have has comprehensively failed. You would think that both pro- and anti-gun lobbyists could agree that this is a problem, so itâs weird that I seldom see either one mention it.
Maybe not. Apparently the camerman was ALSO engaged to a co-worker. A morning producer. Who was apparently in the control room watching this segment.
Edit: ABC News is now reporting that the âmanifestoâ he sent said that he felt harassed because he was a gay black man. So it seems unlikely he was actually the ex-boyfriend of either?
Oh, jeez. Thatâs horrible.
You would think that both pro- and anti-gun lobbyists could agree that this is a problem
Frankly, Iâd be more surprised if both sides did agree.
Gun regulations matter, but not as much as most people hope.
Anti-gun people point to Canada as a great example of low gun crime rates in a population that has lots of guns (mostly rifles).
Pro-gun people point to Mexico as a great example of a high gun crime rate in a country with super-strict gun laws.
Maybe gun crime is an indicator of a bigger problem. My uneducated guess is that itâs a symptom of inequities in a culture and economy. Fix the economy, reduce the gap between the wealthy and the poor, and I think a lot of gun crime would go away despite lax gun regulation.
Iâm pretty sure most of the guns seized have been stolen, so less âofficialâ re-sales in gun stores or shows, and more cash in hand in the parking lot kind of sales.
I am also in favour of well regulated gun ownership, but the gun laws vary so wildly from state to state, heck from county to county. There was a while there in the 90s when most of the guns being seized in Toronto could be traced to Kennesaw, GA, where its the law that all households own at least one gun. (Which is the only reason Iâve ever heard of Kennesaw!) I donât have any easy answers, and I donât know how to solve this issue, but gotdamn arenât we tired of this already? How many more times?
Well, he did use the phrase ârace warâ in his manifesto.
247 âmass shootingsâ in 2015 so far. There have only been 238 days in 2015âŚ
it is. Guns are a tool used in crimes - not a cause of crime. The reason someone wants to rob or do harm to another person isnât because of the tools available. Yes, guns are more effective than knives or bats, but in lieu of guns criminals us the next available weapon - hence the anti-knife campaign in the UK right now.
If you look at the worst homicide rates in the world, you will see a clear link with poor countries. 1st world countries with good social programs have the lowest. When one has feels they have no options to get ahead other than crime and violence, that is the path more people take. If everyone is busy, working, and hopeful crime goes down.
Uh -where are they getting their data - or is this a difference in nomenclature. Here is a list from Mother Jones - a very left leaning publication, and their data since 1998.
It seems to be a difference in what constitutes a âmass shootingâ - Mother Jones is using âfour fatalitiesâ and Washington Post is using âfour victims, including shooterâ - not necessarily homicides.
It seems to be a semantic debate, so long as youâre not one of the ones that have been shot.
Also, the Mother Jones one does not include the 2009 Collier Township shooting where a man shot up a womenâs gym, killing 3 women and wounding 9 others and then killing himself. I never under stand why this one is left off âmass shootingâ lists and yet it invariably is.
Perhaps he only shot one person, and bludgeoned and/or stabbed everyone else. With bullets.
True. If I have ever heard gunshots in my neighborhood in Chicago, it has been masked by fireworks on the fourth of July. However, if I visit my family in Annapolis, MD. I can guarantee I will hear gunshots on any given night from two rough neighborhoods only 1/4 to 1/2 a mile east or west. Gun violence is not just a big city issue.
Who, this shooter?
This shooter did use the term race war, yeah. According to the linked article, he considers his actions a response to the Dylan Roof shooting
"I've been a human powder keg for a while...just waiting to go BOOM!!!!" ABC quoted the manifesto as saying. "You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE ...(deleted)!!!"
