Richard Stallman resigns from MIT and the Free Software Foundation

There’s no reason not to. It’s not his. It’s open-source and many people have contributed.

Just because is name is the only one on the early commits doesn’t mean it has to be “cancelled”.

I generally like BB forums because the community avoids ad hominems like this. I guess I was wrong.

Oh how could he, in his 70s, have any clue why the young woman he was introduced to by his billionaire host on the private island agreed to have immediate sex with him?

I’m sure it was a complete mystery, with not even the first trace of a single working hypothesis.

This kind of speculation deserves derision. The context was the clue that something was off, not the absence of Giuffre indicating she was in trouble.

If someone walks out of a store with an alarm blaring, and they hand you a TV set human being, nobody is going to seriously entertain the idea that you thought it must be a paid-for gift.

He didn’t meet her in the club, as anything approaching equals.

Don’t bother posting more apologism in this line, if it’s based on the idea that Minsky must have (or even plausibly or possibly) thought everything was cool.

I think you missed the sarcasm.

The crime he allegedly committed, sexual assault of a minor? I’d say that’s beyond complicit.

The ironic thing that occurs to me… I someone had taken him aside and explained the externalized costs of hosting a quirky, aspie guest such as himself… It seems plausible that he might agree, accept the hotel, and everyone be slightly happier about it.

Im right there with you-his being on the spectrum in no way excuses shitty behavior- but I also think normies learning to communicate more effectively with aspies and other spectrum dwellers, will indirectly make the world a safer place for everyone, underage girls included.

For myself, its always a little soul-crushing when someone notices Im on the spectrum and then leaps to all kinds of judgemental conclusions about the quality of my character.

The joke’s good, but I got to point out that apparently Avogadro’s personal life and conduct were entirely decent, blameless and probably boring. (I don’t want to see someone claiming on tumblr a few months from now that Avogadro was a notorious harasser and that’s why we should stop using moles in chemistry.)

That said, Avogadro died about 100 years before Italy gave women the right to vote, so it’s a pretty safe bet that Avogadro’s unremarkable ideas were horrendously sexist by today’s standards.

Not that this means anything at all about how we should regard Avogadro and their scientific work. I just like to remember that history was awful.

Oh sure, the past is a different and usually much shittier country. I probably just took the joke overly seriously.

Apparently.

And one of the research licenses went on to become BSD. (So in an odd way, Windows is slightly related to BSD.)
But you’re still missing my point as already stated clearly above, so I’ll stop responding here.

It was an incomplete thought. And as you used about 500 words to ask and answer “What the hell are you on about?” I think I’ll just leave you be, as continued conversation apparently doesn’t require my participation.

I would settle for stopping moles in government.

Also, the sooner we chuck overboard the misconception of the the Great Man theory of history, science, programming, activism, ect…the sooner we can stop conflating the character of rock stars with the value of rock n roll. Society is a team effort and some team members bring a unique perspective and/or unusual talent, but this hero worship crap is a medicine ball locked to the leg of humankind. Let’s break out the angle grinder and liberate ourselves from hero cults.
