Rickrolling is sexist, racist and often transphobic in context

At least the blog in the VIA had the decency to disguise the link to youtube.

Is there anyway to filter some of the site’s writers?
Cory,David & Mark’s post’s are the only one’s worth reading anymore.

The funny thing is that as a sociology graduate from the late 1990s, I’d have no problem confecting a critique of rickrolling from a critical/queer theory background. But none other than Judith Butler already did it, more or less, in “Performativity and the Pleasure Principle.” By her standards it’s a short read, worth a look.

The funny thing is that as a pro writer, I’d have no problem confecting an ethnomusicological academic paper on the debased discourse of rickrolling, mired as it is in the everpresent fear that you will once again be linked to the video. But it’s already been done: “Explaining away the humor: Rickrolling 5 years out.” By the standards of modern blogging it’s a short read, worth a look.
