I’d love to see Sir Rod do a video of “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” wearing one of these bad boys:
Seriously, good on him for taking pride in a geeky hobby. BoingBoing should officially declare him a Happy Mutant.
I vaguely recall an article on his layout about 10 years ago in Model Railroader.
ISTR thinking in my rivet-counting way “That is really cool. But the ‘no U-turn’ signs in front of the station are wrong.” (they had that red circle and slash which was no used in the US until ~the 70s.)
I wonder if he had “Grant Street and Three Rivers City” in mind. Cause that would be s place near and dear to my heart. The pictures aren’t too far off, either!
When your musical career is really about funding your hobby.
I beilieve he’s categoized as a crooner.
The idea of smuggling smokes across the border in this way. as genius as the their hash driveway.
He probably can’t keep up his old hobby anymore

The MAGGIE MAY singer, a fervent fan of SCOTLAND and GLASGOW CELTIC, has a full-size football pitch in the grounds of his Essex, England home.
As for the story, it never happened in the end. It was for the best, Rushden and Diamonds were an overperforming village football team who were within about 30 miles of Coventry City, Leicester City, Cambridge United, Peterborough United, and the old Wimbledon FC had just moved to Milton Keynes. It was unsustainable, the team fell out of the EFL and doesn’t exist anymore.
I have fond memories of building an N scale layout with my dad (we were tight on space). I always wonder if this hobby will die out, but I’ve seen some youngsters are into it which makes me smile
As someone who loves the equally uncool hobby of building model airplanes, this is one of my favorite pictures:
In his autobiography he stated that being on the cover of “Model Railroader” was a bigger thrill for him than being on the cover of “Rolling Stone”.
He even helped out when some fellow model train enthusiasts had their layouts trashed by vandals earlier this year.
oblig.
Yep, 2007.
It hasn’t exactly been a secret, which is what some news outlets seem to imply.
That’s the hat that Ted Turner wore as skipper of the America’s Cup-winning Courageous (12mR US26) in 1977:

He built that city on Rock and Rolling Stock.
It is oddly reminiscent of Duluth, Minnesota
I used to live right down the street from https://www.traintown.com/ , my son 29 years old still talks about it.
